Nutritional Disorders in Beef Cattle - FSA3071

چکیده
Nutritional disorders associated with both forage and feed consump tion can have a large impact on the profitability of beef cattle operations. Forages are an important component of beef cattle production systems in Arkansas. Most cowcalf and stocker cattle enterprises in Arkansas rely heavily on foragebased nutritional programs. Forages are used for both livestock grazing and hay production. Arkansas has over 4.4 million acres of pastureland and harvests over 1.3 million acres of hay each year. Grains and byproduct feeds are also included in the nutritional programs of many Arkansas cattle herds. These concen trate feeds are often fed as nutritional supplements to cattle during periods of low forage quality, when forage supply is limited, as part of perfor mance testing programs or when feeding animals with elevated nutri tional requirements.

Supplementary Feeding of Grazing Beef Cattle
Some 60% of Australia% beef cattle are located in the tropics and subtropics, grazing, in general native pastures of low digestibility and N content. Production per head is low, as also are reproductive rates. The nutritional problem centres around the low contents of phosphorus, sulphur and nitrogen in pastures from June to December. This paper discusses responses in breeding cattle to supplem...

متن کامل2 Forage Use in Growing
Forage is included in beef cattle growing or finishing diets for several reasons. Nutritionally, forage provides protein, vitamins and minerals. When included as a minor component of high grain finishing diets, forage may increase feed intake and reduce nutritional disorders due to increased salivation, rumination and passage rate. Manipulating dietary moisture content through inclusion of dry ...
متن کاملPrediction of Dry Matter Intake by Cattle in Feedlot
Dry matter intake (DMI) is the most important variable affecting animal performance (Waldo and Jorgensen, 1981). This is especially the case for beef cattle, considering their economic importance, their complex digestive systems and their particular metabolic functions (Forbes, 2007). Feed intake restrictions can prevent the fulfillment of nutritional requirements. As most of the nutrients in b...

The problem of continuous versus discontinuous growth of beef cattle in relation to the economics of beef production is under investigation at the U. S. Animal Husbandry Experiment Station at Beltsville, Maryland, and data now being obtained with identical twins should lead eventually to the production of more pounds of beef per 1...
